the ASTROLOGY place
WHAT IS ASTROLOGY?
4 ASTROLOGICAL BUILDING BLOCKS = PLANETS + SIGNS + HOUSES + ASPECTS
There are three basic pieces of information needed to construct an astrological chart that is specific to each individual: the date, place and time of birth. Below is an example of these three basics.
Using the three pieces of information noted above, the Astrologer then consults a couple of reference books (a TABLES of HOUSES* book and an EPHEMERIS**) that have information of what was happening planetarily on a particular date, at a given time and where.
"...Astrology is not something you will learn over some dull weekend,
or in a week, or in a month, a year - or ever, for that matter. Astrology,
quite contrary to what its detractors say about it, is one of the most
involved - and evolved - subjects there is. It has almost limitless
capacity to describe an individual as a completely unique human
A chart shows an exact picture of what was occurring in the universe at the time, date, and location of birth. Astrologers interpret this information.
(September 2, 1980)
The DATE of BIRTH
The PLACE of BIRTH
The TIME of BIRTH
*TABLES-These are the tables showing the degrees of the various signs of the Zodiac occupying the cusps of the houses in any latitude under a given meridian of right ascension or sidereal time.
**EPHEMERIS-An almanac listing the daily noon or midnight positions of the Sun, Moon, and planets
(as well as other astronomical phenomena) as seen from the observatory at Greenwich, England.
After a few mathematical calculations enough information is known to construct a chart. A circle is
divided into twelve houses and each house is assigned a cusp identified by degree and minute and
further defined by an astrological sign. So when the chart is finished, a picture emerges of where the
planets were on the date of birth.
Also included in the interpretation of the chart are the effects of the moon, the moon's nodes, all the planets, the asteroids, the houses of the chart and more. For more clarification on the meanings and
uses of these terms, please read about some of these subjects in the sections located on the top left.
In summary, Astrology is a wonderful tool for self-knowledge. Combining Metaphysics, Science, and
Math, to list a few, Astrology offers a more indepth perception about yourself and the reasons why, and
is a great place to start the personal learning journey. As was stated in the very beginning of this page,
this journey to learn Astrology can encompass a lifetime and you can be assured that you will never run
out of subjects to both learn and to explore. As your skills of interpretation increase with personal study
and practice then you can use these strengths to interpret charts for others. But, it is important to first
study your own chart. In other words - "Know Thyself".
