Each house is colored in some measure by the Sign it is in, the Planets that
are located there, and because some houses are larger/smaller than others
in degrees, the size of the house can be a factor to interpretation.

The Ascendant, also known as the Rising Sign, is associated with the 1st house and is the mask
we show to the rest of the world. In her book, Astrology from A to Z, author Eleanor Bach defines
the Ascendant as "the degree of the Zodiac which is rising (coming up over the Horizon) at the time
The MC, also known as Midheaven, is associated with the 10th house, and is the place where we like to shine, particularly in the public eye. It is a sensitive spot in our chart because of the very public position and is exactly opposite the 4th house, the foundational base we generally call home.
The Rising Sign mask can act as either a wall to protect the Sun sign identity or it can act as a facade
to promote an exterior more acceptable to others and thus, once again, provide a protection to the Sun
sign identity. The general constitution, healthwise, is indicated by the rising sign which also describes
the kind of physical body we have chosen for this lifetime.
Third in importance in influence on the personality, the Sun and the Moon are the others, the Ascendant also marks the beginning of new events into the life as transiting planets pass over this spot in the chart
in what is called a Conjunction aspect. Transiting planets that make other aspects (see ASPECTS section) to the Ascendant also call attention to this beginning sense of identity, generally presenting the opportunity for something new to be introduced into the life, permitting continual change/rebirth to this mask of personality we first present to the world.
If you look at your chart, the Ascendant is the sign at the "nine o'clock position". It is the degree that begins your first house. This degree can be anywhere from 0 - 29 and can be any of the twelve signs Aries - Pisces, all depending upon general birth information - time, date, and place of birth.
