"THOUGHTS ARE THINGS"
This world is not for cowards. Do not try to fly. Look not for success or failure. Join yourself to the perfectly unselfish will and work on. Know that the mind which is born to succeed joins itself to a determined will and perseveres ... Live in the midst of the battle of life. Anyone can keep calm in a cave or when asleep. Stand in the whirl and madness of your action and reach the Center. If you have found the Center, you cannot be moved."
"We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far. Each thought we think is tinged with our own character; so even the jests or abuse of a pure and holy man will bear a trace of his own love and purity and do good.
Each thought is a little hammer blow on the lump of iron, which is our body, making it into what we want it to be. We are heirs to all the good thoughts of the universe, if we open ourselves to them.
The following excerpt is from the book "Inspired Talks" by Vedandist Sri Swami Vivekananda, who is credited with promoting Eastern (Hindu) religion to the Western world. His comments regarding thoughts and will are worth sharing.
In many religions, the beginning of All was signified by a word. For instance, in the Christian Bible, it is written: "...in the beginning there was the word." In Hinduism and other eastern religions, the word that was uttered was "OM". In either religion, it is implied that the thought must have come first. So, before it can be a word, it must be a thought.
