STRENGTH ... KEEN VISION ... ILLUMINATION
The TOTEM Place
When soaring, the Eagle is naturally presented with an opportunity of viewing land and life from an expansive aerial vantage point. The whole picture can be seen from these great heights. It is no coincidence that the ability to see a long distance and see many things is termed Eagle-eye.
In stories about the bird/animal world it is related that the Eagle was the one that could fly closest to the Sun after others tried and failed to do so ... a truly enlightening experience. Here the Eagle's flying strength and the will to reach for new heights show that with enough stamina and the necessary courage one can obtain that lofty goal.
The Eagle is a majestic bird, with a large wing span, strong talons and hooked beak. It is also a bird of prey. Eagles are noted for their size, gracefulness and powers of flight and have come to represent many different things. The eagle likeness can be found on such items as The Seal or Standard of a Nation, Coins, and Insignia.
Eagle can remind us of the sky and of the spiritual nature of this messenger. As a Spiritual Mystical Teacher, the totem Eagle presents a balance between the spirit world and everyday life.
Although several directions are assigned to the Eagle, it is easy to think that this is the bird of the direction East. This direction represents new beginnings that can bring illumination to our path and the dawn of higher knowledge.
